The shady trees of the long time standing Prescott Courthouse is a nice way to spend an afternoon with family and friends. Each weekend in the summer arts & crafts festivals, bluegrass music and a sweet mixture of home town fun with modern amenities can all be found on the streets surrounding the plaza! Treat yourself to a new cowboy hat or find that treasure to fit in your own home at one of the many antique shops that take you down memory lane!
Sharlot Hall Museum is within walking distance of the Courthouse Plaza and is filled with the sights and sounds of history as it comes to life before you in their variety of ol' time festivals. Work shops that demonstrate skills from eras gone by and characters dressed in period clothing can be found on the museum grounds! Special Holiday events can be found on their website!
Don't forget the small Smoki museum, dedicated to the traditions of native people and their dances. Located on Gurley street just several blocks from the Courthouse.
Endless Hiking Trails
Thumb Butte is perhaps the closest hike to the downtown area. It offers breathtaking views and yet has wonderful play areas if you chose not to hike 'To the Top'. Keep in mind, the view is well worth the work to get there! Please remember to bring water when hiking all the desert areas.
If something more challenging is to your liking, the "Prescott National Forest" offers seemingly endless options to chose from. Please visit a local hiking shop or the Rangers District for current maps.
Fishing for the Family!
Several lakes in the area offer family recreation options. Lynx Lake located only a few miles from downtown Prescott offers a store and boats rentals! Picnic tables abound in the day areas of the lake. The area does have a required use fee so remember to bring a few dollars for the self pay stations.
